This year, PSS celebrated Pharmacy Week differently. We did not host a "big bang" event like we had in the past; instead, all pharmacists celebrated the week in their own setting while maintaining a common identity.
To achieve this, we distributed the "Pharmacy Rocks" badge to all pharmacy staff, including students, lecturers, frontline pharmacists, administrators, industry pharmacists, technicians, students, temp staff nationwide. The design was conceptualized by Mr. Tan Bing Xun, a Year 4 NUS Pharmacy Student.
To further explain what the design represented, human beings made up the alphabets of "Pharmacy". This denotes that Pharmacy is made up of people, and when we cooperate or work together like we do everyday, we make up "Pharmacy". "Pharmacy Rocks" means that Pharmacy is "the best".
We have also printed, "Know what Your Pharmacist Can Do for You!" pamphlet to be distributed to the public. This pamphlet highlights contributions of pharmacists from the various sectors so that the public can get to know the profession better.
3 main retail pharmacy chains – Guardian, Unity and Watsons also conducted free health screening for the public during the week. Over 350 pax were screened at some 29 outlets all over the island. Watsons even picked up a case of undiagnosed diabetes!
During the week the institutions all used powerpoint slides which were flashed at computer starting up to increase awareness of the celebrations. Various colleagues from the different institutions emailed many encouraging remarks to our pharmacists. SingHealth polyclinics received a poster which bore encouraging comments on the pharmacy staff. Even non-Pharmacy staff and patients asked to wear the "Pharmacy Rocks" badge to show their support! AH pharmacy staff wrote in purple ink for the whole week, and dressed in purple on the Friday to commemorate the event.

We sincerely thank everyone who had been part of this celebration and who showed their support by wearing the badge and giving out pamphlets. Your participation ensured that Pharmacy Week 2008 rocked!
