The 21st edition of the annual Singapore Pharmacy Congress (SPC) was held on 16-17 July 2011 at Sheraton Towers. The theme of this year's congress is "Partnering Community, Optimising Care".

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is alerting members of the public on its detection of counterfeit coloured contact lenses being sold in local optical shops because of public health and safety concerns. The counterfeits were fraudulently labelled as “FreshLook® ColorBlends®” Contact Lenses from CIBA VISION and found to be unsafe and of poor quality.

The HK DOH has asked the UK based drug maker GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to call back Augmentin 375 mg tablets which contain detectable levels of plasticisers including diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP).

The government has also found di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and diisononyl phthalate (DINP) in the drug.

According to the latest studies, up to 12% of electronically sent Rx contain errors.
