• Expansion of Workplace Safety & Health Act
The Workplace Safety & Health Act (WSHA) which replaced the Factory Act will soon be expanded to cover all the healthcare institutions – viz. hospitals, medical clinics, dialysis centres, nursing homes etc.
In the past, only the labs and kitchens of the hospitals were affected. The expanded WSHA will mandate that hospital, clinics etc must report and keep records of accidents, dangerous occurrences and occupational diseases at their workplaces. Stipulated under the WSH (Incident Reporting) Regulations, this requirement serves two purposes:
• To monitor workplace incidences
• To take steps to prevent incidents

Work-related accidents that result in the death of or injury to employees, members of public or self-employed persons must be reported to MOM.

Person who fails to make a report will be liable to:
• A fine of up to $5,000 for the first offence,
• A fine of up to $10,000 or a jail term of not more than 6 months, or both for the second and subsequent offences.

Persons who knowingly make false notifications can face a fine of up to $5,000 or a fail term of not more than 6 months, or both.

• Please Pay Your PSS Membership Subscription
The strength of Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore, a not-for-profit organisation, hinges the small pool of pharmacists and pharmacy graduates and students. The strength of the organisation is driven by not just the number of its membership size per se, more importantly, the number and quality of our initiatives.

At PSS, we have championed the professional status of our members and profession, advocating the transparency of medical bills; lobbying for the entry level salary  increase; provision of broader base CPE etc.

On behalf of the Council, we would like to urge all our members to pay the 2008 membership subscriptions promptly. This will greatly help us to continue championing the professional cause of our profession.

You would have received your payment advice from the Secretariat. Kindly make your payment promptly.
For members with outstanding arrears, kindly ensure that you update your payment expeditiously.

Thank you very much.
PSS Membership Committee.
