Dear Members,

Instead of writing another article, I thought it’s more “light-weight” to just convey my personal greetings and wishes to all of you and your family.

2007 has been a very significant year for PSS as we have achieved a number of milestones, eg.
• We have forged closer collaboration with stakeholders like CDC/NYP, CASE, HPB etc.;
• We have also brought the MOU with NTUC LearningHub in offering training programmes into fruition;
• Our regional and international liaison with major pharmacy & pharmaceutical bodies like the FAPA, FIP, ACCP, RPSGB, ASHSP, APhA etc. have broadened & strengthened;
• We organised yet another successful Singapore Pharmacy Congress & Pharmacy Week;
• The decades old Pharmacists Registration Act underwent significant amendment to prepare the pharmacy practice better meet Singapore's future healthcare needs.
• Our long advocacy for the itemization of medical bills has gained MOH’s nod through the PHMC guideline which kicks in from April 2008.
• Pharmacists’ remunerations have been adjusted significantly to better reflect our contribution in the health system…etc.

2008 will be an important year for PSS as we are poised to bring another major pharmacy meeting to our shore, ie. FAPA 2008 Conference. We will also be planning to bring the Asian Conference of Clinical Pharmacy to Singapore by 2010.

On our home turf, much have been done to make the working conditions better; but a lot more need to be done by us as a group collectively. Together, I’m confidently those who dare to dream will aim to make the best use of their skills and talent for oneself, the institution, the profession and the public who entrusts their faith in our professionalism and services.

Wishing all a Happy & Successful New Year 2008

Ng Cheng Tiang
President, Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore
