During the recent inaugural Asian Federation of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AFPS) conference, one of our members, Assoc. Prof. Paul Heng was elected as Vice President of this new Asian grouping. 

 

 

Prof. Heng has been a veteran member of PSS who obtained his basic degree in pharmacy, then later PhD from the National University of Singapore. He has been a faculty member since and is currently an Associate Professor. He has also served as the Head of Pharmacy Department for two terms between 2000-2004.

Prof. Heng’s research interests span the breadth of solid state pharmaceutics with focus on coating, pelletization, microencapsulation, powder technology, and controlled release formulation and processing including PAT. He is the Principal Investigator for GEA-NUS Pharmaceutical Processing Research laboratory, a research laboratory focused in process and product development related to pharmaceutical technology. He also chairs the Quality Control Advisory Committee, Ministry of Health, and Singapore and has just newly relinquished the Presidency of the Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy (AASP), an organization which he has been helming for the past 2 years. 

Prof. Heng is indeed a true pharmaceutical scientist who has authored or co-authored over 140 international refereed research journal articles and an equivalent number of conference and other non-refereed papers. He has 6 book chapters and 4 patents to his credits. He is the editor-in-chief of the Asian J Pharm Sci. and is in the editorial boards of the Pharm. Dev. Tech, J Microencapsulation, Drug Dev Ind Pharm and Pharm Tech Asia Pacific.

On behalf of PSS, we would like to thank Prof. Heng for his illustrious contributions to the field of pharmaceutical sciences and also the strong liaison he has galvanized with other fellow scientists from within the region and internationally. Congratulations for being elected the Vice President of AFPS and we look forward to your continued support and guidance in this specialized area of practice.
