With the professional commitment from a group of healthcare professionals, an academy was established to advance & further improve the quality of IV therapy services, learning and research in Singapore.
Called the IV Academy – this grouping is established as an inter-institution, multi-disciplinary forum to develop good IV practices through partnership in education, training, and research. The Academy is currently guided by a Advisory Board comprising doctors, pharmacists and nurses. The chairman of the Advisory Board is A/Prof Koh Kwong Fah from Alexandra Hospital. Pharmacist members in the advisory panel are Mr. Wu Tuck Seng from National University Hospital and Ms Fatimah MK from Alexandra Hospital. Baxter Healthcare has been actively promoting the programme through secretarial, logistical and material supports to ensure that the initiatives are well underway.
In conjunction with the launch and inaugural training programme of the Academy, a press conference was held at the Conrad Hotel. PSS President Mr. Ng Cheng Tiang, President of Singapore Nurses Association, Ms Tan Wee King, and A/Prof Koh Kwong Fah were at the conference. The workshop for the IV Therapy was held in Alexandra Hospital on 19-20 Mar., 2007 with veteran in this discipline Mr. Melvyn Davis from Australia conducted the workshop for more than 80 participants including nurses, pharmacists and doctors.
Objectives of IV Academy
• Complement current educational programs to attain consistent understanding of the principles and importance of IV therapy
• To help increase the profile of health care professionals by:
–Increased acumen in principles of IV therapy
–Enhance standards to reduce the risk of BSI
–Increased compliance in guidelines set
–Exchange program
