Professor Lucy Wan Outstanding Pharmacist of the Year

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all who have helped me in my journey. Thank you Professor Lucy Wan and PSS for establishing this award and providing a platform for pharmacists like myself to strive for excellence in our areas of practice.

The world is fast changing and I hope to be able to contribute in my capacity towards sustainability (people, processes, environment, financial) in pharmacy practice through innovation and lifelong learning.

Joyce Tan Zhenyin

PSS-Johnson & Johnson Hospital Pharmacist of the Year

It was an honour to receive the PSS Hospital Pharmacist of the Year award. I am extremely grateful to PSS for the recognition and to the KTPH pharmacy department for the nomination. Being part of PSS has allowed me greater insights into the pharmacy profession and has moulded me into who I am now. Working at KTPH pharmacy has been fulfilling and enjoyable and I am thankful to all the supportive colleagues who have helped me along the way.

It has been a real challenge with the pandemic and resource limitations. We can see that the pharmacy profession has stepped up and evolved quickly to cope with the challenge, especially in the area of tele-consults, collaborative care with general practitioners and mobile inpatient care. These new programmes allow patients (who usually receive care at the hospital the choice) to receive their care at a place they are comfortable and familiar (i.e. their homes) while maintaining the same quality of care. Pharmacists play a key role in the success of these initiatives, in maintaining accessibility of medications and ensuring patients/caregivers are using medications safely at home to optimally manage their conditions effectively while at home. I am excited to be part of these programmes and hope to encourage pharmacists to be open to embrace change. Be receptive to new models of care and be part of the transformation of the healthcare you want for yourself.

PSS-DCH Auriga Community Pharmacist of the Year Award

It is a great honour to have received the PSS-DCH Auriga Community Pharmacist of the Year Award 2022. The award is a recognition of all the hard work and efforts of all community pharmacists in forging meaningful relationships with their patients, promoting health education to the public and empowering them to take charge of their own health. I am very humbled and grateful to have been conferred with this award and I hope that this inspires other community pharmacists too, to make a difference in the lives of their patients and/or customers even in the smallest of ways.

Despite the many challenges that may come our way, I am sure that the future of the pharmacy profession is bright, given all the passionate talents that we have in our pharmacy community. I hope to see even more advances in tapping on technology to further improve patient access to medicines and incorporating sustainability efforts in our pharmacy processes. With pharmacists collaborating and working hand-in-hand with other healthcare professionals, we can offer personalised pharmacy services to patients and continue to empower them to manage their health conditions and live healthier lives.

PSS-Pfizer Innovation and  Scientific Research Award

We are honoured to be the recipients of the PSS – Pfizer Innovation and Scientific Research Award 2022, and we are grateful for the recognition and support received for the continued development of Project VRx, which is a three-dimensional virtual reality (VR) apprenticeship program for medication safety training at our hospital institution.

We envision the future of Pharmacy as one that is forward-thinking, and ready to adopt and spread innovative practices – both within and outside of Pharmacy – that will keep us ahead as we serve the nation as a single entity in the new normal. To realise this vision, we are upscaling and enhancing Project VRx by creating a wider variety of VR scenarios, so as to enhance the robustness of training. We are also collaborating with other healthcare and educational institutions to incorporate Project VRx into their training curricula.
