Criteria for this award includes demonstrated leadership qualities and professional competency; significant contributions made to pre-registration training, and the commitment to engage, inspire and motivate the preceptees.

Feeling very honoured to be nominated and humbled to be one of the recipients of the Singapore Pharmacy Council Excellent Preceptor Award 2021. This award is definitely a team effort. It would not have been possible without the help of my wonderful preceptorship team, and all the pharmacists and pharmacy executives at Watsons who are passionate about teaching and developing the next generation of pharmacists. I am glad to be able to share this honour with them!
Preceptorship is a rejuvenating journey. Whilst I share my knowledge and experience with my preceptees, they also bring me fresh perspectives and insights into the profession. Although I may be the teacher, I feel that I have learned and gained much more from my preceptees than what I had imparted. Each of them brought me new learning points and precious food for thought. Without every single one of them, I would not have been able to accomplish what I did and be who I am today. I hope this mutual learning can continue in my preceptoring journey and everyone will benefit together!

I am thankful for the various teaching opportunities I have had for the past few years. It is an honour to be recognized among amazing preceptors to receive this award. I have always believed that a good preceptor encourages curiosity and creates a supportive learning environment to suit individual preceptees’ style. That is why I will always set aside enough time to spend with my preceptee and ensure that his/her learning objectives are met from time to time. During the process, it is very rewarding for me to see them grow and excel. Every preceptee is different, and I have to tailor my mentoring style accordingly. This in itself, is also a continuous learning journey for me. I hope to continue to inspire and at the same time be inspired by others.
