On the 29th of August 2015, the Young Pharmacist Chapter (YPC) of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore (PSS) organized a Captain’s Ball Challenge. The event was opened to all pharmacists, providing the opportunity to bond and get to know fellow pharmacists from other institutions. It was held at the National University of Singapore (NUS) sports complex in the late afternoon. Each team comprised of at least 5 members. In total, four teams participated - Guardian, Watson’s, PSS Council and our very own YPC team.

To kick off the event, the first match was between teams Watson’s and the YPC. It was a close fight with Watson’s leading by just one point. In spite of the scorching sun, all teams played with zeal and excitement. Each team fought it out with the hope of winning the top prize. To combat the hot sun, cold drinks and freshly cut fruits were catered for all. Each team got a chance to compete against all other teams.

Among all the participating teams, the team from Council put up the best fight against all the young and energetic ones, leading them to the top position. The 1st runner-up was clinched by the team from Watson’s, followed by Guardian, and last but not the least, the YPC. The camaraderie exhibited in all the teams is encouraging and offers an avenue for the young pharmacists to not only mingle with their peers but also their seniors.

The top team was awarded with a bag full of goodies while the 1st runner-up won a $50 Capitaland shopping voucher. The 2nd runner-up won half a dozen bottles of Cetaphil® body wash.

As part of the YPC’s effort to engage the young in the area of sports, the Captain’s Ball Challenge has become an annual event. Bring on the sporting spirit in all the young pharmacists!
