PSS had an inaugural collaboration with Toxicology Society, Singapore (TSS) to offer educational programs in the area of Toxicology to our PSS members on 20 September 2018.

There were a total of 4 speakers from Toxicology Society, and below are the topics shared during the CE event named as Toxicology Symposium 2018:

1.       Hepatotoxicities of Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors by A/Prof Ho Han Kiat

2.       Acute Toxicities: Common Drugs and Uncommon Toxicology by A/Prof Phua Dong Haur

3.       Unusual Poisoning by Dr Yao Yi Ju

4.       Resuscitation Antidotes: An Update by Dr Tan Hock Heng

Interesting case studies were shared and allowed the participants to understand theories of toxicology and application in real life scenario happening at hospitals Emergency Departments and Health Sciences Authority. Speakers shared insights and challenges when they are asked to investigate substances of abuse behind suspect subjects. History taking is still of utmost importance to determine what tests need to be run for speedy results and conclusions.

There was a great turn out of participants – total of 91 participants turned up at the HSA auditorium with seating capacity of 100. Most feedback that the symposium was very interesting and enlightening. PSS hopes to have future collaboration with TSS more often to benefit our members in this niche but important topic of concern.

Lastly, TSS also welcomes pharmacists to join their society as members and receive regular updates re this topic and share similar interest with people of the same community.
