The Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore’s Hospital Chapter recently organized a multidisciplinary workshop to facilitate pharmacists’ learning beyond our profession. The event titled ‘Pharmacists’ Workshop – A Multidisciplinary Approach to Geriatric Care’ was successfully held on Saturday, 11 April 2015 from 9 am to 4 pm, at the auditorium of Alexandra Hospital.

This event is part of a continuing effort to bring more awareness to the care of geriatric patients. Our team had the pleasure of inviting and working with the following speakers, who most graciously agreed to participate in this event :

·       Dr. Christopher Lien, Senior Consultant Geriatrician and Head of Community Geriatrics,Changi General Hospital.

·       Ms. Wendy Ang,Principal Clinical Pharmacist,Department of Pharmacy, Changi General Hospital.

·       Ms. Amanda Goh,Speech Therapist,Department of Rehabilitation, National University Hospital.

·       Ms. Lee Tien Li, Nurse Clinician (Wound and Stoma Care)Clinical Nursing Unit, National University Hospital.

·       Mr. Lim Kong Beng, Deputy Rehabilitation Manager, Department of Rehabilitation, Ren Ci Hospital

·       Ms. Soh Yueen Mun, Senior Dietitician, Department of Dietetic and Food Services, Changi General Hospital.

This training event aimed to highlight the continuum of care of patients. To facilitate learning, the speakers, in addition to speaking on their allocated topics, utilized a case study of a fictitious 85-year-old Madam Lee with characteristics of a real patient and shared how they would treat this patient.

This event was very well received – we had a total of 97 attendees, with good feedback overall. The attendees actively participated and through their questions and comments and this faciliated a better understanding of the topics covered. The hospital chapter team members are also very thankful to our 3 sponsors- Abbott, Galderma and LF Asia. Through them, our attendees were able to sample milk feeds, dermatological products as well as receive lovely goody bags.
