Mediacorp TODAY March 27, 2006 by LEE U-WEN Take your time to find the best deals when buying medicine, even if it means going across the Causeway to Johor Bahru. That was the advice from Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan, who was responding to a Woodlands resident's concern about the price disparity between medicine sold at polyclinics and private outlets such as pharmacies. Mr Khaw said that medicine dispensed at polyclinics are cheaper because the Government subsidises "at least half" of the total cost. He did not think a price control system would work, and urged patients to hunt for the best deal instead. "I encourage doctors to print out the prescription so that patients can take it with them when they buy medicine. They can then take the bus to Orchard Road, Causeway Point or even across to Johor Bahru. I heard it's cheaper there," he said. Comments (0)
