Web Portal to help patients manage their health Print E-mail

The Straits Times Dec 14

CHANGI General Hospital and Microsoft Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday to co-develop a web-based portal CareSpaces which will help people manage their own health.

The system 'tailor-makes' advice and information on diet plans and recipes and exercise regimes, based on statistics such as height, weight and types of activities, that are entered by the users.

The records on this system can also be shared on a voluntary basis by the patient with family doctors and gym trainers, who can then get a better and more accurate picture of the patient's long-term health.

This is a different system from the Electronic Medical Record system that is already in place within hospitals. The EMR system consists of lab reports and specific hospital treatments and prescriptions, written in medical jargon, while information in the CareSpaces databases are entered by the users and delivered in an easy-to-understand manner.

The new portal will be ready in June 2007.
