Recognition for Our Local Outstanding Pharmacists Print E-mail

 

Three pharmacists and a student were presented with outstanding awards during the opening night of the 18th Singapore Pharmacy Congress recently. There were Dr. Camilla Wong, Ms Geraldine Koh, Ms. Simone Tan and Mr. Maximilian Ho.

PSS would like to pay tribute to these award recipients and congratulate them for the achievements in their various field of work.

Professor Lucy Wan Outstanding Pharmacist Award 2006 was presented to Dr. Camilla Wong of Singapore General Hospital. Dr. Wong completed her basic pharmacy training in Curtin University of Technology in Perth in 1992 and started work with SGH since 1994. She then headed to Albany College of Pharmacy in New York to complete her Pharm D. programme in 2001, followed by a residency stint in Indiana. She has been the President of PSS for the past 3 years and is currently serving the Society and as a Council Member. Her passion and commitment for the pharmacy profession has indeed been very inspirational. Deservingly, she collected the Award from Prof Lucy Wan herself to join the few outstanding and selfless pharmacists who have been accorded with this recognition.

PSS-Shire Hospital Pharmacist of the Year Award 2006 was presented to Ms. Geraldine Koh, currently a Senior Pharmacist of Alexandra  Ms. Koh has been a very active member of the Alexandra Hospital pharmacy department with involvement in various aspects of quality and service improvement. She has also been helping in many sub-committees of PSS. For the past number of years, Ms. Koh has working on a number of pharmacy practice research and education projects; and has contributed consistently to the Singapore Pharmacy Congress through oral and poster presentations. Her selfless commitment to hospital pharmacy practice has indeed helped transform the way pharmaceutical services are delivered in the hospital.

PSS-Schering Plough Community Pharmacist of the Year Award 2006 was presented to Ms. Simone Tan of Essentials Pharmacy. Ms. Tan has been a rare breed community pharmacist who manages and operates her privately-owned, independent pharmacy together with her husband. Despite the demanding task of running her own practice, she has been very involved with the various aspects of community pharmacy services like monitoring patients' chronic ailments, health screening, counselling for minor ailments and promotion of self-care. Ms. Tan has been contributing to the profession and PSS selflessly whenever possible and she is indeed a role model of our community pharmacy practice.

Student Overseas Enrichment Award 2006 was presented to Maximilian Ho, a year 3 pharmacy undergraduate. Mr. Ho has chosen to attend the International Federation of Pharmacy Student Congress 2006 in Cairns, Australia. Such meeting enables him to interact and network with pharmacy students from various parts of the world, thereby strengthening the bonding of student bodies, at the same time creating the useful link for future network.
