Subutex is Now CD & Pharmacists’ Involvement in SVRP Print E-mail

Image

From August 14, 2006, Subutex has been made a CD and the importation, possession and distribution will become unlawful unless exempted by relevant authorities.

It was for the safety of the public that the government has taken such drastic action to prevent further abuse in Singapore.
Guardian Pharmacists have been in constant dialogue with MOH before this announcement of reclassification was made. Four pharmacists and a couple of pre-reg will be seconded to Institute of Mental Health (IMH) to assist in the Subutex Voluntary Rehabilitation Programme (SVRP) from 21st Aug for a period of 2 months or so. IMH is the only institution in Singapore to receive exemption to dispense Subutex for the SVRP.

This is another example where pharmacists will play a key role and be part of the healthcare team, together with the doctors, counsellors and nurses to help these 3,800 patients wean off their Subutex addiction and lead a drug-free life after their SVRP.
