What PSS Plans to Achieve in the Coming Years? Print E-mail
PSS organised a strategic retreat with her panel of advisors, Council Members and invited guests in last the last quarter of 2005 to further look into areas which PSS sees are important to the future of pharmacy in Singapore.

The retreat aimed at re-calibrating our goals and action plans to meet the challenges of the changing environment and we, the 99th Council, is of the opinion that the need for change is now.

Invited guests to this strategic retreat in 2005 included luminaries from different sectors of pharmacy practice - industry, hospital, community, administration, legislation, academic etc. The session was moderated by a strategic management consultant with many years of experience in the healthcare sector from QS-First Pte Ltd.

During the retreat, current practice patterns were evaluated against both local and international realities and issues. A few more post-retreat sessions were held with the consultant to distil and crystallise what had been deliberated. Finally, four key thrusts were formulated, which the 99th Council has committed to achieve as strategic objectives for the next three years. The four key thrusts are:
1. Build Organisational Capacity within PSS
2. Invest in Young Pharmacists
3. Establish a strong, identifiable Identity and Image for Pharmacists and PSS
4. Identify new Areas and Roles in which Pharmacists can develop into

The present 100th PSS Council has pledged to take on the commitment. It is understood that it would be resource-intensive driving such key thrusts based on the present model largely driven by voluntary subcommittees. The next step forward would be to strengthen PSS’s management team with the ultimate formation of full-time management structure to drive and operationalize the various KPIs listed under the strategic thrust.

If you have further thoughts or input, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the Council Members.
