Since the first aseptic dispensing course was launched in 1988, aseptic dispensing and oncology pharmacy practice has come a long way.
Then the first oncology pharmacy practice was started in 1988 at National University Hospital, and in 1989, Singapore General Hospital follow suit.

A proud moment for the course participants with Ms Lita Chew, Course lecturer
In 1999, National Cancer Centre was established, and the oncology pharmacy practice in NCC now has more than 12 pharmacists and 12 pharmacy technicians.
This annual aseptic dispensing course organized by PSS has always attracted participants not only from Singapore, but all neighbouring countries such as Malaysia and Brunei.
This time there were even 3 pharmacists from the National Cancer Centre Pharmacy of Mongolia.

This year, the Aseptic Dispensing Course was held in conjunction with the 20th SPC. A total of more than 40 participants attended the 2 day course at the Alumni Medical Centre.
The invited guest lecturers were all luminaries from the field of oncology pharmacy practice such as Lita Chew, Peter Yap, and Dr Alexandre Chan, to mention a few.
Besides theories and hands on practice at aseptic dispensing, other advance issues like setting up oncology pharmacy practice,
managing hypersensitivity reactions and extravasation were taught as well.
Safe handling of cytotoxics and medication safety considerations were also taught to provide an all round enriching experience for the participants.
For the pharmacy technicians attending the course, they will surely appreciate what they learn during these two days.
Although they may have the technical know how of how to make a sterile preparation from their job experience,
they are able to learn from these oncology practioners additional knowledge and skills and appreciate the intricacies
and challenges facing oncology pharmacy practice.
After the completion of the 2 day workshop, it was a proud moment for the participants as they receive their certificate.
Kudos to PSS and the instructors who have put up a very commendable and useful course.
